Newcastle United have joined the race to sign highly-rated Croatian midfielder Lovro Majer, according to a report.
The 20-year-old, who plays for Zagreb club Lokomotiva, is regarded as one of the most talented young players in his country and is believed to be courting interest from around Europe.
According to Calciomercato, the Magpies have attempted to get the better of fellow suitors Sampdoria with a £10m offer for Majer plus bonuses.
The report adds that the Serie A side are currently plotting an £8m move for Majer but insists that the player's head could be turned by the chance to play in the Premier League.
Majer scored 14 goals and provided five assists last season for Lokomotiva in 34 matches.
