Newcastle United have become interested in Sassuolo forward Gianluca Scamacca ahead of a potential move this summer, according to a report.
The 23-year-old has become one of the most highly-sought-after players in Serie A following his impressive displays for I Nervoverdi, where he has scored 16 league goals in just 24 starts so far this season.
After several loan spells away from the club in recent years, the academy product finally made his breakthrough in the first team in Reggio Emilia at the beginning of the 2021-22 campaign.
Such form has seen the Italian heavily linked with moves to fellow Serie A sides Napoli and Inter Milan, but La Gazetta dello Sport are reporting that Premier League side Newcastle have also registered an interest.
Napoli are said to view Scamacca as a replacement for Victor Osimhen, who has been heavily linked with a move to the likes of Manchester United in the upcoming transfer window, whilst Inter are eager to bring in the forward to partner Lautaro Martinez in attack.
The report outlines how Scamacca would prefer to continue his career in Italy, but with Napoli prepared to pay €45m (£38.1m), and Newcastle reportedly willing to sanction a fee in excess of €50m (£42.3m), it remains to be seen where he will be playing next season.
The Magpies are set for a busy summer transfer window in the coming months, as Newcastle prepare for their first full season under the stewardship of Eddie Howe and its Saudi-backed owners.
