Newcastle United have explored the possibility of signing 16-year-old Braga winger Roger Fernandes during the summer transfer window, according to a report.
The youngster went on to feature for the Portuguese side 10 times during the 2021-22 campaign, whilst often featuring in the matchday squads throughout the season.
Fernandes scored his first senior goals for the club by netting a brace during the 6-0 victory over Arouca on December 30, and was even rewarded with a brief 11-minute cameo in the 2-0 defeat to Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League knockout stages in February.
As a result of his emergence in senior football, the winger has sparked interest from several clubs across Europe ahead of a potential move during the summer, and A Bola are reporting that Newcastle are the latest side to express an interest.
Fernandes signed his first professional contract with Braga back in November, but this has not deterred interest from potential suitors, with reports suggesting that Ajax and Borussia Dortmund have already had bids turned down for the youngster.
An offer from the Magpies worth around an initial €20m (£17.1m) rising to a potential €25m (£21.4m) has been suggested, with Eddie Howe's side looking to make several reinforcements in the coming weeks, during their first summer transfer window under the stewardship of their Saudi-backed owners.
