Newcastle United's Mehdi Abeid joins Panathinaikos on a season-long loan deal.

Newcastle United midfielder Mehdi Abeid has joined Greek side Panathinaikos on a season-long loan deal.

Abeid joined Newcastle from Lens in July 2011, but has failed to make a single Premier League appearance for Alan Pardew's side, spending the second half of last season on loan at St Johnstone.

"Panathinaikos FC announces that it has entered into an agreement with Newcastle United for the one-year loan of Algerian international footballer Mehdi Abeid," said a statement on the Greek outfit's official website.

Abeid represented France at Under-16, Under-17 and Under-18 levels, but has since made four appearances for Algerian Under-23s.
