Alan Pardew keen to silence critics

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew says that he uses criticism from his detractors as inspiration to prove them wrong.

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has revealed that he uses criticism from his detractors as inspiration to prove them wrong.

Pardew's future at St James' Park is growing increasingly uncertain, with the 52-year-old under pressure for having guided the Magpies to five defeats in their previous six outings.

Although admitting that half of the fanbase would like to see him replaced in the North-East, the former West Ham United coach insists that he will not hide from the "stick" directed at him and hopes to transform the club's fortunes shortly.

"I would suspect more than half the fans inside St James' Park on Saturday [against Swansea] would want me out," Pardew told Sky Sports News.

"If the stick's coming my way I accept that but hopefully it's something which doesn't affect the players. It's frustrating for me because you want to be well received and I want to have the respect of these people - it hurts when you don't get it.

"I am not going to hide from it but it does not hurt me in as much as I want to walk away or go into my shell. It just makes me more determined to try and get their opinions to change...and opinions do change."
