Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has admitted that he has spoken with midfielder Jack Colback about Sunderland's approach ahead of the Tyne-Wear derby.
The 25-year-old moved from the Black Cats to the Magpies in the summer on a free transfer and will play against his former side for the first time at St James' Park on Sunday.
Pardew has revealed that he has talked with the midfielder about what tactics Gus Poyet could employ for the match as he looks to end a run of three straight defeats to Sunderland.
"I had a chat with Jack about what he thought Sunderland would do and how they approach the game," Pardew told reporters.
"I picked his brains, which is sensible. He is very calm, and told me what they possibly might do, which I'm not going to tell you."
Newcastle are eighth in the Premier League ahead of their match against Poyet's side.
