Alan Pardew: 'Mike Ashley is happy with win'

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew reveals that chairman Mike Ashley congratulated the players following their first win of the Premier League season.

Alan Pardew has revealed that Newcastle United chairman Mike Ashley visited the team's dressing room to congratulate the players on their first win of the season.

The Magpies beat Leicester City 1-0 this evening to climb up to 18th in the Premier League table, with Gabriel Obertan scoring the winner to end a two-year run without a Premier League goal.

Pardew told BBC Sport: "He's happy. I know both Mike and myself take a lot of criticism but we love it. He loves the club and was desperate to win. He wanted to express that to the players and I thank him for that."

Newcastle will hope to build on this result when they travel to Tottenham Hotspur next weekend.
