Newcastle United 'won't rush appointment of Alan Pardew successor'

Newcastle United are reportedly in no rush to appoint Alan Pardew's successor, but are expected to hold talks with potential candidates next week.

Newcastle United are reportedly prepared to take their time as they hunt for a new manager following the departure of Alan Pardew.

The 53-year-old was appointed as Crystal Palace boss on Saturday after signing a three-and-a-half-year contract at Selhurst Park.

Reports have claimed that Newcastle managing director Lee Charnley and chief scout Graham Carr have drawn up a five-man shortlist, including Dick Advocaat and Remi Garde.

However, it is believed that the list of contenders is longer, with Saint Etienne's Christophe Galtier, former Mainz boss Thomas Tuchel, Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe, Derby County's Steve McClaren and Glenn Hoddle all being considered.

According to Herald.ie, club owner Mike Ashley is yet to approach any possible candidates, but early discussions are expected to begin next week.

John Carver is currently in caretaker charge of the Premier League team.
