Huddersfield Town manager Lee Clark plays down speculation linking him with the top job at Newcastle United.

Huddersfield Town manager Lee Clark has played down speculation linking him with the top job at Newcastle United.

The former Magpies midfielder has been touted as one of the potential replacements should owner Mike Ashley decide to disperse of the services of current boss Alan Pardew.

Despite the rumours, Clark has revealed that his attentions are fixed firmly on getting the Terriers promoted to the Championship after narrowly missing out last season.

"I was part of that fantastic side as a player at Newcastle, and as a local lad being a part of that was a dream come true," Clark told talkSPORT.

"I don’t look too far ahead in this game because, if you start doing that then things start falling down around you and you end up with egg on your face.

"I’m just focused on doing a job for Huddersfield and giving the fans, the board and the owner something to be proud of."

Clark made over 200 appearances for the St James' Park club.
