FA 'wanted longer stadium ban for Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew'

The FA are said to have originally considering giving Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew a five-match stadium ban for headbutting David Meyler.

The Football Association are said to have initially considered handing Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew a longer stadium ban for trying to headbutt Hull City midfielder David Meyler.

The English governing body have released the written reasons behind Pardew's seven-match ban, three of which are stadium bans, after he was found guilty of misconduct.

The 52-year-old was charged by the FA after forcing his head towards Meyler during a touchline exchange during Newcastle's 4-1 victory over Hull.

According to Sky Sports News, the commission has revealed that the FA wanted a five-match stadium ban, but it was reduced to three due to the swift action taken by Newcastle to fine Pardew, as well as the manager's quick apology.

The report has also claimed that the punishment was decided partly based on the high-profile nature of the incident.
