Newcastle United have revealed that summer signing Siem de Jong is likely to miss "a number of months" with a thigh injury picked up in training.
The Dutch midfielder, 25, started his first Premier League game for the Magpies in the 3-3 draw with Crystal Palace, but may not appear again until December.
A statement on the Newcastle website read: "Siem de Jong sustained an injury to his right thigh in training earlier this week and is to be assessed further at the start of next week.
"Initial indications are that he is likely to be out for a number of months."
De Jong cost Newcastle £6m when he joined from Ajax, and was immediately named vice captain at St James' Park.
