Newcastle United head coach Steve McClaren has conceded that Papiss Cisse is a doubt for the upcoming festive period.
The Senegalese striker limped off in the 33rd minute of Saturday evening's 1-1 draw with Aston Villa because of a groin complaint.
The severity of the injury is yet to be revealed, but McClaren has admitted that he may have to make do without the services of the 30-year-old.
"He's had a scan and he needs a second opinion on another to gauge the severity, how long [he will be out]. We still don't know, but he's a doubt for the weekend," he told reporters.
Over the coming days the Magpies face Everton, West Bromwich Albion and Arsenal.
