Netherlands defender Gregory van der Wiel has expressed his gratitude to Bert van Marwijk following the manager's decision to step down from the national side.
The 60-year-old called time on his four-year career with the Dutch side yesterday after their disappointing exit from Euro 2012 in the group stage of the tournament.
Van der Wiel wrote on Twitter: "It's a shame to hear that Van Marwijk has resigned as national team coach. I've had some beautiful and good years under him. I'm grateful that I got the chance to make my international debut under him."
Meanwhile, Inter Milan playmaker Wesley Sneijder is also saddened by the departure of his national team coach.
