Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk has said that he believes the criticism being levelled at star striker Robin van Persie is unjustified.
The Arsenal striker scored against Germany but was one of several players to miss chances against Denmark, and van Marwijk feels that Van Persie should not be singled out.
"I don't have to justify myself but the reason I have played Van Persie in the striker's role is because he played well in both games and scored a great goal against Germany," he said.
"He is the best man for the attack and that is why he has played such an important role and will keep on playing.
"He has missed a couple of chances but he shouldn't be singled out for any criticism."
The Netherlands must beat Portugal tonight and hope Germany beat Denmark if they are not to be eliminated from Euro 2012.
