Antonio Conte slams 'under-achieving' Napoli

Juventus boss Antonio Conte takes a swipe at Napoli for under-achieving in Serie A this season despite their hefty spending last summer.

Juventus boss Antonio Conte has taken a swipe at Napoli for under-achieving in Serie A this season after their hefty spending last summer.

Conte's troops went down 2-0 to the Partenopei at Stadio San Paolo on Sunday night, resulting in the end of a 22-game unbeaten streak for the run-away leaders in Italy's top flight.

Coach Rafael Benitez claimed before kick off that his club could not compete with the financial strength of their Turin counterparts, but the 44-year-old has laughed off that suggestion, insisting that the Naples outfit should be on course for the scudetto.

"We faced a team that has spent more than €100m, and was built to win, not just to take part," he told reporters after the match.

"We have invested €25m in our team, they've spent €100m. They have spent in one year what we have invested in three seasons and they are 17 points behind us, as well as being out of Europe."

Napoli spent in excess of £70m during the summer transfer window in recruiting the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Jose Callejon and Dries Mertens.
