Report: No Middlesbrough interest in former Arsenal midfielder Fran Merida

A report claims that former Arsenal midfielder Fran Merida will not be signing for Championship side Middlesbrough.

Middlesbrough reportedly have no plans to offer a contract to former Arsenal midfielder Fran Merida.

Recent speculation had suggested that the 24-year-old, who is a free agent following his release by Brazilian side Atletico Paranaense, had been in talks over a move to Boro.

However, head coach Aitor Karanka has no plans to add to his current Spanish contingent at the Riverside Stadium, according to the Teeside Gazette.

The Barcelona-born player made 16 appearances during his four-year stint with the Gunners, which came to an end in 2010.
