Gaizka Mendieta coy on Middlesbrough return

Former Middlesbrough midfielder Gaizka Mendieta hints that he would be interested in returning to the club as a coach.

Gaizka Mendieta has hinted that he would be interested in taking up a coaching role at Middlesbrough, amid speculation linking him with a return to the club.

The Championship outfit appointed Aitor Karanka as their new head coach on Wednesday and the Spaniard is reportedly interested in adding Mendieta to his backroom staff.

Mendieta, who still lives in the North-East after ending his playing career at the Riverside Stadium, has said that he would listen to any offer from his compatriot.

"It is something that has not happened and if it does happen in the future I will consider the options but there is nothing on the table," Clubcall.com quotes him as saying.

"I am getting my badges at the moment and is something I would like to do eventually in the future, when and how only time and circumstance can determine that."

Mendieta played for Middlesbrough between 2004 and 2008.
