Mexico confirm World Cup qualification

Mexico qualify for next summer's World Cup in Brazil by beating New Zealand 4-2 in Wellington to complete a 9-3 aggregate victory in the CONCACAF/OFC playoff.

Mexico have qualified for next summer's World Cup in Brazil after beating New Zealand 9-3 on aggregate in the CONCACAF/OFC playoff.

The North American nation, who led 5-1 following last week's first leg at the Azteca Stadium, confirmed their place at the finals with an entertaining 4-2 win in Wellington.

Oribe Peralta bagged a first-half hat-trick for Mexico, before Chris James and Rory Fallon netted late consolation goals for the Kiwis.

Carlos Pena Rodriguez then completed the scoring three minutes from full time.

Mexico are the 31st team to qualify for next summer's tournament. They will be joined by Uruguay later today unless Jordan can overturn a five-goal first-leg deficit.
