Saturday's League One predictions including Bolton vs. Huddersfield

Sports Mole provides score predictions and previews for all of today's League One fixtures, including Bolton Wanderers vs. Huddersfield Town.

Mansfield vs. Cambridge (Saturday, 12.30pm)

Mansfield Town will attempt to end a five-game winless run in all competitions when they play host to Cambridge United in Saturday's League One contest.

The Stags are sitting in 14th place in the standings, while the U's are languishing in 23rd position as they continue to search for their first win of the 2024-25 season.

We say: Mansfield Town 2-1 Cambridge United

Mansfield have settled for draws in both of their home games this season, but we think that they will finally claim a home win when they face a Cambridge side who have lost both of their away league matches this term.

Northampton vs. Wycombe (Saturday, 12.30pm)

Wycombe Wanderers will make the relatively short trip to Sixfields for Saturday's League One meeting with Northampton Town.

The hosts are in 13th place with five points to their name, while the visitors are one point behind in 16th position in the standings.

We say: Northampton Town 1-2 Wycombe Wanderers

Wycombe have already picked up a victory at Sixfield this season, and we think that they will draw upon the confidence built from that success to clinch another away victory over Northampton.

Blackpool vs. Exeter (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Steve Bruce takes to the dugout for the first time as Blackpool manager when they welcome Exeter City to Bloomfield Road for a League One fixture on Saturday afternoon.

The two teams meet for the first time since January when the Tangerines secured a 2-0 home victory over the Grecians.

We say: Blackpool 2-2 Exeter City

Whether Bruce can immediately put his stamp on Blackpool after just a few days at the training ground remains to be seen. Nevertheless, an entertaining, end-to-end contest could be on the cards and we can see the spoils being shared on this occasion.

Bolton vs. Huddersfield (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Both nurturing ambitions of achieving automatic promotion to the Championship this season, Bolton Wanderers and Huddersfield Town will clash at Toughsheet Community Stadium in League One on Saturday afternoon.

The Wanderers are off the pace in the early top-two race following the first batch of fixtures, whilst the Terriers have made a solid start on their return to the third tier of English football.

We say: Bolton Wanderers 1-1 Huddersfield Town

Both enjoying extensive periods on the training ground due to the international schedule, Bolton and Huddersfield should be raring to provide a competitive match for supporters at the Toughsheet on Saturday.

Without the threat of Adeboyejo in attack, we suspect the Wanderers to struggle in front of goal once more, leading to a low-scoring share of the spoils with the Terriers.

Bristol Rovers vs. Wigan (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Wigan Athletic will attempt to claim their second league win of the season when they travel to the Memorial Stadium for Saturday's meeting with Bristol Rovers.

The Latics have four points to their name after four matches, while the Gas have taken seven points from their five League One outings.

We say: Bristol Rovers 2-0 Wigan Athletic

Bristol Rovers have picked up maximum points in both of their opening two home league games, and we think that they will give their supporters another home victory to celebrate, especially as Wigan have lost their opening two away matches this season.

Crawley vs. Stockport (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Stockport County will be looking to maintain their impressive start to the 2024-25 League One season when they travel to Broadfield Stadium to face Crawley Town on Saturday afternoon.

Both these sides earned promotion to the third tier last season, with the hosts doing so by winning the playoffs while the visitors gained automatic promotion by winning the title.

We say: Crawley Town 1-2 Stockport County

While Crawley have avoided defeat in their last two matches against this opponent at this venue, their attack did look blunt leading up to the international break, which does not bode well for their chances against a Stockport side that have only conceded one goal this term.

The time off may have given the hosts a chance to reset, but we feel the Hatters will still come away with the points in this one.

Peterborough vs. Lincoln (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Peterborough United will be hoping to quickly bounce back from defeat in their last League One outing when they host Lincoln City at the Weston Homes Stadium on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the visitors will have the opportunity to win three consecutive league matches after beating Stevenage in their last league game.

We say: Peterborough United 1-2 Lincoln City

Although Peterborough have dominated this fixture in recent years, they are not the favourites coming into this clash due to their recent results and Lincoln City's form.

The visitors have been virtually unstoppable on the road this year, and we believe that they have what it takes to secure a win away from home once again.

Reading vs. Leyton Orient (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Reading manager Ruben Selles on August 20, 2024© Imago

Two sides with contrasting ambitions after the first four games of the League One season will meet on Saturday afternoon when Reading play host to a stuttering Leyton Orient.

The hosts have laid a solid platform so far, currently in eighth place in the league standings with seven points, while the visitors are bottom of the table and yet to earn their first point in 2024-25.

We say: Reading 2-0 Leyton Orient

It does not look good for Leyton Orient at the moment, as they have failed to score a goal on the road this season and have already conceded eight home and away. Reading's home form in the early stages of this campaign has been excellent and we feel they will secure a fairly straightforward victory in this one.

Rotherham United will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways in the 2024-25 League One season when they play host to Burton Albion at the AESSEAL New York Stadium on Saturday.

The hosts went into the international break in 15th place in the league standings, with five points in as many games, while the visitors are 19th, though they have played one less fixture.

We say: Rotherham United 1-0 Burton Albion

After losing to Wycombe and Fleetwood last month, Rotherham showed enough improvement over their last two matches to suggest that they could edge this one, against an opponent who have not found the back of the net in almost 200 minutes of playing time.

Shrewsbury vs. Charlton (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Two sides at opposite ends of the League One table will collide this weekend when Shrewsbury Town take on Charlton Athletic at the Crowd Meadow on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts are currently the first side below the dotted line with just three points after the first five games of the season, while the visitors are fifth with 10 points earned over the same period.

We say: Shrewsbury Town 1-2 Charlton Athletic

Shrewsbury's only victory this season came over a struggling Leyton Orient, and aside from that match, they have done little to make a case for them to pull off a victory here. For Charlton, the break would have given them a chance to reflect on their errors over the last two games and we feel they will bounce back to winning ways in this one.

Stevenage vs. Barnsley (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Barnsley will be out to extend their current unbeaten run in the 2024-25 League One season when they arrive at the Lamex Stadium to face Stevenage on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts have stumbled out the starting gate this season, currently in 17th place with four points in as many games, while the visitors are third with 10 points in five matches.

We say: Stevenage 1-2 Barnsley

After an opening-week defeat to Mansfield Town, Barnsley found excellent form leading up to the international break, unbeaten in four games, and we fancy them to return to league action with a victory over Stevenage, who are winless in their last three.
