Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal turned down the chance to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, according to reports.
The 30-year-old has been linked with a return to Old Trafford, where he spent six seasons between 2003 and 2009.
Some Spanish sources are reporting that Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes met United's chief scout Martin Ferguson to discuss the possibility of a return, only to have the deal vetoed by Van Gaal, claims The Express.
United pocketed £80m when they sold Ronaldo to Real Madrid, with the transfer then setting the world record for the highest fee.
