Manchester United reportedly decide against triggering a one-year extension for striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Manchester United have reportedly decided not to offer Zlatan Ibrahimovic a contract extension with the club.

The 35-year-old joined Jose Mourinho's side on a one-year deal, with an option for a further 12 months, last summer and had a strong debut season at Old Trafford with 28 goals for the club in all competitions.

Just before the end of the campaign, however, the Swede suffered a serious knee injury and is now expected to remain on the sidelines until early next year, when he will be 36.

According to The Express, United sources have said it would be "financial madness" to take up an extension on Ibrahimovic, who earns £367,000 a week and would pocket almost £10m in wages before he is fit to play again.

Mourinho has instead turned his attention to other targets and is thought to be considering bids for Romelu Lukaku, Alexandre Lacazette, Andrea Belotti and Alvaro Morata.

Ibrahimovic's agent Mino Raiola, meanwhile, has insisted that the striker will "100% remain playing in Europe next season.
