Manchester United are reportedly pondering a club-record bid for Chelsea's Juan Mata as manager David Moyes looks to reinvigorate his ailing squad with world-class talent.
Moyes, whose team are currently seventh in the Premier League table, has insisted that the Red Devils are capable of signing the best players in the world despite their struggles in his debut season as manager.
Mata would fit the bill, but Blues boss Jose Mourinho is unlikely to sanction the sale of the Spanish playmaker, who has started only half of Chelsea's top-flight games this campaign after falling behind Oscar, Willian, Eden Hazard and Andre Schurrle in the attacking midfield pecking order, to one of his domestic rivals.
However, United are hoping that a £37m offer, which was being strongly considered by the Old Trafford hierarchy on Monday, could tempt the Blues to let him leave, according to The Telegraph.
United's transfer record is £30.7m - a fee they paid Tottenham Hotspur for Dimitar Berbatov in 2008.
