Manchester United will let Wayne Rooney leave the club in the summer if they receive £35m for the player, according to reports.

Manchester United are reportedly open to allowing striker Wayne Rooney to leave in the summer.

The England striker was controversially dropped to the bench for the Red Devils' Champions League defeat to Real Madrid at Old Trafford, despite impressing during the side's win over Norwich City at the weekend.

The 27-year-old's game time has significantly decreased this season following the arrival of Robin van Persie, as well as facing competition from Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck.

Following a dispute with manager Sir Alex Ferguson, United are willing to part with the forward at the end of the campaign for a fee of around £35m, according to ESPN.

An Old Trafford source said that any chance of a transfer would be subject to a "complicated chain of events", and could hinge on whether United can bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to the club.

French giants Paris Saint-Germain are the early favourites to sign Rooney.
