Tottenham Hotspur forced to sell Christian Eriksen to ease stadium debts?

Tottenham Hotspur could reportedly consider cashing in on Christian Eriksen this summer in order to help ease the debts accrued by their new stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur could consider selling Christian Eriksen this summer in order to ease the debt caused by their new stadium, according to a report.

Spurs belatedly moved into their new £1bn home earlier this month and are on a five-year financing agreement with the bank in order to repay almost £650m.

The spiralling cost of the stadium saw their debts come in at almost £250m more than initially planned, and Diario AS reports that Daniel Levy may look to raise some of those funds by selling players.

Eriksen has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer, and Levy is aware that cashing in on the Danish playmaker would allow him to pay back a significant chunk of the loan.

Manchester United and Barcelona have also been credited with an interest in Eriksen, and Spurs are understood to have placed a £95m asking price on his head.

Eriksen is one of three first-team players who could leave Spurs this summer, along with Toby Alderweireld and Kieran Trippier.
