Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes tells Wayne Rooney to scrap plans for a move away from Old Trafford this summer.

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has urged Wayne Rooney to scrap plans for an exit from Old Trafford this summer.

Rooney has been linked with a move away from the Premier League champions in recent months, with Chelsea having a bid turned down earlier this week.

Scholes believes that United provide a platform that no other side in the country can match, advising Rooney to stay and help new manager David Moyes build a side capable of retaining the title.

He told Sky Sports News: "I don't think there's anywhere better than Manchester United to play your football.

"It's up to Wayne, but he's a top, top player and every player and fan wants him to stay."

The 38-year-old also declared that he would welcome the addition of Cesc Fabregas to United's squad, while backing Moyes to add quality during this summer.
