Former Manchester United forward Louis Saha claims that Cristiano Ronaldo could return to Old Trafford following Ruben Amorim's arrival as the new head coach.

Former Manchester United forward Louis Saha has said that Cristiano Ronaldo could return to Old Trafford following Ruben Amorim's arrival as the new head coach.

Amorim officially took charge of Man United on November 11, and he is now preparing the Red Devils for Sunday's Premier League clash with Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

The 39-year-old has taken over a team currently 13th in the Premier League table, with goals being a major problem this term, managing only 12 in their 11 matches.

Senior strikers Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund have only netted three times between them in all competitions this season, and there have been suggestions that the Red Devils could target a forward in January.

Saha has talked-up the prospect of Ronaldo representing Man United for a third time, with his close relationship with Amorim making the ideal a possibility, according to his former Red Devils teammate.

Saha tips former teammate Ronaldo to return to Man United

"I do think Cristiano Ronaldo would love to return to the club in a role where he's respected. He left the club on somewhat bad terms, so the club's hierarchy may not want it to happen, but the players and the fans understood what he was trying to say. People can't say that what he was saying was wrong," Saha told Betfred.

"Cristiano does have a connection with Ruben Amorim, but I don't believe he would sign him purely because he's his friend. He wouldn't sign him just to please him, he would only do it if he believes Cristiano can help.

"If there was an opportunity to come back, I'm sure Cristiano would love to return and help the club because he will love the challenge. If he has the chance, he will come."

Ronaldo initially represented Man United between 2003 and 2009, scoring 118 goals in 292 matches for the Red Devils, winning three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, two League Cups and the Champions League during his first spell at Old Trafford.

The forward then returned to the Red Devils from Juventus in 2021, scoring 27 goals in 54 appearances, but he left on a free transfer in the latter stages of 2022, with a controversial interview with Piers Morgan, where he was highly critical of the club, leading to his contract being terminated.

Ronaldo's Al-Nassr contract is due to expire next summer

Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr on a free transfer in the early stages of 2023, and he has represented the Saudi Pro League outfit on 79 occasions, scoring 68 goals and registering 18 assists in the process.

The forward also remains a vital player for Portugal, scoring a stunning 135 goals in 215 caps, including five in his four appearances in the group stage of the 2024-25 UEFA Nations League.

Ronaldo's contract with Al-Nassr is due to expire next summer, but the attacker is expected to represent Portugal at the 2026 World Cup, so he is set to play at least one more season in club football.

The former Sporting Lisbon youngster recently suggested that Al-Nassr were likely to be his final club, but Saha believes that a sensational return to Old Trafford could be on the cards for one of the best players in the history of the sport.
