Roma and Brighton & Hove Albion reportedly join the race to sign out-of-favour Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.

Roma and Brighton & Hove Albion are the latest teams to register an interest in signing Manchester United's Scott McTominay, according to a report.

The Scotland international's future seemingly lies away from Old Trafford after he was forced to accept a bit-part role under Erik ten Hag last season.

Casemiro and Christian Eriksen immediately became Ten Hag's first-choice pairing last term, forcing McTominay to battle with the likes of Donny van de Beek, Fred and Bayern Munich loanee Marcel Sabitzer for minutes off the bench.

McTominay did appear in 39 games for Man United last season - scoring two goals and setting up one more in all tournaments - but he only started 10 Premier League matches and one Europa League affair.

In addition, the 26-year-old was named on the bench for both the EFL Cup and FA Cup final, playing just 27 minutes in total across those two Wembley contests, and the arrival of Mason Mount will push him further down the ranks.

The Red Devils have McTominay under contract for another two years, but as Scotland bid to qualify for Euro 2024, an exit is expected to materialise as the midfielder seeks to build up his minutes before the continental tournament.

Newcastle United were previously tipped to move for McTominay, but speculation over a move to the North-East has cooled due to Sandro Tonali's arrival at St James' Park.

West Ham United now appear to have emerged as the favourites as they scope out replacements for Arsenal-bound Declan Rice, while Everton have also been linked with a swoop.

According to CBS Sports - via the Daily Mail - Roma and Brighton have also joined the list of clubs hoping to prise McTominay away from the Theatre of Dreams.

Brighton's interest has sparked the idea of a player-plus-cash deal for Moises Caicedo, who has shone for the Seagulls since Man United turned down the chance to sign him in 2021.

However, a stay in Manchester has not been ruled out for McTominay, as Man United may not be able to bring in another midfielder due to Financial Fair Play restrictions.

The midfielder has spent 21 years with the Red Devils, joining their youth setup in 2002 and rising through the age groups to make 209 appearances for the first team in all tournaments.

McTominay made his debut in the 2016-17 campaign under now-Roma boss Mourinho, and he boasts 19 goals and five assists for his boyhood club in that time.

Should a suitable bid come in, McTominay could follow Zidane Iqbal, Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe and David de Gea - whose departure was confirmed on Saturday - out of the exit door at Old Trafford.

Fred is also thought to be on the radar of Roma and Fulham, while Van de Beek is reportedly ready to seek pastures new after an underwhelming three years at the club.
