Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand questions the club's interest in Rennes' Eduardo Camavinga, raising concerns over the immediate impact he can have.

Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand has questioned the Red Devils' interest in Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.

The 18-year-old has emerged as a top transfer target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, as well as attracting interest from Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

It is believed that Solskjaer has plans to integrate the youngster into his first-team lineup gradually, but Ferdinand thinks that if Man United are to compete for the Premier League title, the club need to make signings who can have an impact straight away.

"I've not seen enough of him if I'm honest. I've seen a bit of him, his debut against PSG where he got man of the match, unreal. Talent? obviously. Is he going to come in and affect the team right now and become a star, or is he going to come in and be a bit like an Amad?" he told his YouTube show Vibe with Five.

"Who comes in for £40m but is nowhere near the starting 11? Is that what we need? Or do we need someone like Declan Rice who is flying at the moment? In an England shirt, he's taken it to other levels now. We all knew he was a good player at West Ham but what Declan Rice is doing in the England team right now, for his age, is a madness.

"Then it comes down to have Man United got the funds to go and get him from West Ham? What are they going to ask for West Ham? For me, I've got to be honest, football ability Camavinga, Rice are fantastic players. You can see the potential a mile off. But Rice brings you character."

Camavinga has managed two goals and five assists in 82 appearances for Rennes.
