Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur 'leading six-team race for Ross Barkley'

Report: Six clubs want Ross Barkley

Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly leading a six-team race to sign Ross Barkley from Everton this summer.

As many as six clubs are reportedly interested in signing Ross Barkley from Everton this summer.

Barkley appears to be on his way out of Goodison Park after turning down a new contract at the club, with manager Ronald Koeman confirming earlier this week that he "100%" expects him to leave.

No formal offers have yet arrived for the 23-year-old, but the Daily Star claims that Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and West Ham United are all monitoring the situation.

Everton have been holding out for a £50m offer, but the interested clubs are confident that the Toffees will lower their asking price given that Barkley has just one year remaining on his contract.

The latest reports suggest that Barkley could eventually leave for between £25m and £30m, which would pique the interest of a number of clubs in addition to Spurs and City, who currently lead the race for his signature.

The England international is Tottenham's primary transfer target this summer, but City are also keen on him in order to not only strengthen their squad but also help with their homegrown player quota ahead of Fabian Delph's expected departure.

Barkley is currently sidelined with a groin injury which is expected to keep him out for around three weeks.
