Report: David Moyes opts to release Rio Ferdinand

A report claims that David Moyes is not planning to extend Rio Ferdinand's expiring contract at Manchester United.

Manchester United manager David Moyes has reportedly decided against retaining the services of Rio Ferdinand.

The centre-back, who recently stated his desire to remain with the Red Devils, will be out of contract at the end of the season.

United have the option to extend that deal by a further 12 months, but Moyes does not view the 35-year-old as a part of his future plans, according to The Mirror.

If Ferdinand were to depart United, it is uncertain if he would look to continue his career elsewhere, although the former England international has previously been linked with a switch to the MLS.
