A Premier League club reportedly steps up their efforts to sign in-demand midfielder Adrien Rabiot, who is still a free agent after leaving Juventus in June.

A Premier League club have reportedly stepped up their efforts to sign in-demand free agent Adrien Rabiot.

The 29-year-old midfielder is still searching for a new club after his contract with Serie A giants Juventus expired on June 30.

Rabiot made a total of 212 appearances for Juve across all competitions during a five-year spell at the club, scoring 22 goals, providing 14 assists and winning four trophies including the 2019-20 Serie A title.

The France international has since been linked with a host of top European clubs, with the prospect of staying in Italy or moving abroad being mooted.

Liverpool to make late move for Rabiot?

According to talkSPORT, Liverpool are stepping up their pursuit of Rabiot, with new head coach Arne Slot known to be on the lookout for a new midfielder this summer.

The report claims that Rabiot's camp have previously reached out to the Merseyside giants, who are now keeping tabs on his situation.

Liverpool have been left frustrated in the transfer market so far this summer as they are yet to make a single signing under Slot, with top targets including Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi turning down the opportunity to move to Anfield.

The likes of Atalanta BC's Teun Koopmeiners and former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti - now in Qatar with Al-Arabi - have also been linked with Liverpool, but a move for either player is yet to bear fruit.

It has previously been reported that Liverpool are set to delay their search for a new midfielder until January, but it is thought that swooping for an experienced player in Rabiot on a free transfer could appeal to the Reds.

Who could rival Liverpool in Rabiot race?

Earlier this summer, multiple reports claimed that Manchester United were prepared to reignite their interest in signing Rabiot after failing to recruit the midfielder last summer.

However, French news outlet L'Equipe says that the Red Devils have now dropped their interest in the midfielder with Paris Saint-Germain's Manuel Ugarte emerging as their primary target.

A separate report from CaughtOffside claims that Newcastle United are very serious about acquiring Rabiot this summer, but they are aware that the Frenchman will likely prefer a move to a club competing in the Champions League, seemingly handing Liverpool a boost.

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are said to still be keeping tabs on Rabiot despite forking out around £42m on the signing of midfielder Joao Palhinha from Fulham earlier this summer.

Rabiot could continue his career in Serie A as both AC Milan and Inter Milan have also been credited with an interest in the midfielder, but like Bayern, they are not in a rush to conclude a deal as the Frenchman can be signed after the transfer window closes due to being a free agent.
