Paul Scholes: 'Paul Pogba not worth £86m'

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba 'is not worth £86m', according to Manchester United legend Paul Scholes.

Paul Scholes has claimed that Paul Pogba 'is not worth' the £86m that Manchester United will reportedly have to pay Juventus in order to sign the Frenchman this summer.

Man United legend Scholes played and trained alongside Pogba when the young midfielder was close to making the breakthrough at Old Trafford, but he left for Juventus in 2012 after failing to agree a new contract with the 20-time English champions.

Scholes has claimed that the now 23-year-old left the Red Devils for the money and doubts whether the France international is worth the £86m that is currently being discussed.

"He was a very talented young player, I played with him and I knew how good he was. He played for the first team maybe once or twice, but from my understanding he was asking for too much money," Scholes told Sport Witness.

"For his age, he was asking for far too much money, that too for a player who hasn't played first team football. Okay, he has gone on to great things. I think certainly there has been a lot of improvement. He needed to improve if he is going to be a player worth £86m.

"I just don't think he is worth £86m. For that sort of money, you want someone who is going to score 50 goals a season like [Cristiano] Ronaldo or [Lionel] Messi. Pogba is nowhere worth that kind of money yet."

Real Madrid are reportedly still considering swooping for Pogba this summer, although it is thought that the Spanish side are currently being priced out of a move.
