Stoke City chairman Peter Coates reportedly wants Phil Neville to take up a senior coaching position at the Britannia Stadium next season.

Former Everton captain Phil Neville has reportedly been lined up by Stoke City chairman Peter Coates for a senior position on a reshaped coaching staff at the Britannia Stadium.

Neville is currently considering whether to extend his playing career into next season after drawing a close to eight seasons at Goodison Park last weekend.

According to The Independent, Coates has been impressed by glowing reports on Neville's coaching potential from the Football Association and is considering offering the ex-England international a role at Stoke next season.

Stoke are currently searching for a new manager for the first time in seven years after officially parting company with Tony Pulis last night.

Neville has also been linked with the vacant managerial position at former club Everton and a coaching role alongside David Moyes at Manchester United in recent weeks.

Roberto Di Matteo, Rafael Benitez, Roberto Martinez and Mark Hughes are among the early candidates mentioned in connection with the post at Stoke.
