Manchester United have reportedly expressed concern at the prospect of a rival bid from Tottenham Hotspur for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes in this transfer window.
The Red Devils are reportedly on the verge of completing a £55m deal for the player after the two clubs met for talks on Friday.
Both United and Spurs were interested in Fernandes over the summer, with the latter seen as more likely to complete a deal.
According to the Evening Standard, United are conscious of Sporting's determination to find a buyer, which could see Spurs wade in with a bid of their own.
The North London side have been linked with another Portuguese midfielder this window in the form of Benfica youngster Gedson Fernandes.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is particularly keen to add midfielders to his roster this month following injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay.
