Manchester United are reportedly close to signing Uruguayan youngster Guillermo Varela in a £1m deal.

Manchester United are reportedly close to completing the signing of Uruguayan youngster Guillermo Varela.

The 20-year-old is believed to have impressed the United coaches following a trial at Old Trafford during the last few weeks of the season.

Following his stint with the Premier League champions, the North-West outfit are expected to complete a £1m deal with Penarol for the full-back, according to the Daily Mail.

The transfer is already thought to have been put in motion before David Moyes was installed as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor.
