Manchester United's Juan Mata to return to Spain this summer?

Manchester United attacker Juan Mata could return to Spain this summer when his contract expires, according to a report.

Manchester United attacker Juan Mata could reportedly return to Spain at the end of the season.

The 32-year-old's existing deal at Old Trafford is due to expire this summer, although the Red Devils do have the option of activating an additional 12 months on the agreement.

A recent report claimed that United were yet to decide whether to activate the extension, with the experienced attacker struggling for regular action during the 2020-21 campaign.

Mata has only featured on 10 occasions for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side this term, while he has not played in the Premier League since the middle of December.

According to AS, the Spaniard could return to La Liga this summer, although the report does not mention a possible destination for the attacker.

Mata started his career with Real Madrid before moving to Valencia and represented Los Che on 174 occasions in all competitions ahead of a switch to Chelsea in the summer of 2011.
