Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood allegedly wants to return to Getafe next season following his successful loan spell at the club.

Mason Greenwood is reportedly keen to return to Getafe next season, having enjoyed his time with the La Liga outfit during the 2023-24 campaign.

Having been informed that he had no future at Manchester United last summer, the forward made a loan switch to Getafe, and he impressed for the Spanish club during their recent season.

The 22-year-old scored 10 times and registered six assists in 36 appearances in all competitions, including eight goals and six assists in 33 La Liga outings.

Greenwood is set to return to Man United this summer, but it is highly unlikely that he will represent the 20-time English champions again.

That said, the Red Devils are believed to be considering extending his contract, which is due to expire in June 2025, in order to protect his valuation.

Greenwood 'wants to return to Getafe next season'

According to TEAMtalk, Greenwood is keen to return to Getafe next term, and the Spanish club are currently locked in talks with Man United.

A deal is seen as highly unlikely, though, as the Red Devils are thought to value him in the region of £40m, which is a figure that Getafe would not be able to pay due to financial restrictions.

Man United are said to be against another loan, as a sale of Greenwood this summer would represent pure profit under the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules.

There is also believed to be Premier League interest in the forward, but it is highly unlikely that the Red Devils would be willing to let him move to an English rival.

Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid and Juventus are said to be among the European clubs keeping a close eye on Greenwood's situation at Old Trafford.

Ratcliffe previously opened door for Greenwood to return

Man United's new minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe hinted in February that there could be a route for Greenwood back into the first team at Old Trafford.

In January 2022, following accusations from a woman, Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault, and he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

The forward was also facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but the case against him was dropped last February.

Greenwood was therefore allowed to return to professional football during the 2023-24 campaign, and Man United had allegedly made the decision to bring him back into their first team before reversing their call due to the backlash from the public.

The forward has scored 35 goals and registered 12 assists in 129 matches for the Red Devils in all competitions, and he was regarded as one of the world's best young talents before his arrest.
