Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly battling to sign Crewe Alexandra midfielder Nick Powell.

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly battling for the services of Crewe Alexandra youngster Nick Powell.

The 18-year-old's form in League Two this season is believed to have caught the attention of a number of top flight clubs.

United's interest was recognised on Saturday when manager Sir Alex Ferguson made a personal check on the midfielder's ability.

However, the Red Devils will face competition from Spurs for the England youth international, according to The Mirror.

Powell has scored 15 goals from 61 outings for Crewe.
