Everton midfielder James McCarthy has reportedly been made a summer transfer target of both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
The Republic of Ireland international arrived at Goodison Park from Wigan Athletic last summer and is believed to have made such an impression that the club are keen to tie him down to a new contract.
However, Man United and Spurs are eager to bolster their midfield options and feel that the 23-year-old has the necessary attributes to fill that role, according to Goal.com.
The report goes on to add that should either club make an official bid, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger may also make a move for McCarthy's services.
McCarthy made 34 Premier League appearances for Everton last term.
