Manchester United have reportedly made "initial contact" with Tottenham Hotspur over a deal for midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
The 28-year-old is facing an uncertain future in North London having fallen down the pecking order since the arrival of new head coach Ange Postecoglou.
Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr have started together in centre-midfield in each of Spurs' opening three Premier League fixtures, while Hojbjerg has been restricted to just two substitute appearances.
New recruit James Maddison, Oliver Skipp and Giovani Lo Celso are three more midfield options available to Postecoglou, as well as Rodrigo Bentancur who could return from a long-term knee injury in October.
Hojbjerg has entered the final two years of his contract at Tottenham and is believed to be one of a number of players, along with fellow midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, who the Lilywhites are prepared to let go before the transfer window closes on Friday.

Hojbjerg was allegedly close to joining Atletico Madrid earlier this summer before a proposed move failed to materialise, while clubs in Saudi Arabia have also been credited with an interest.
Man United are known to be in the market for a new centre-midfielder, and a recent report claims that they are now weighing up a move for Hojbjerg.
According to Sky Sports News, the Red Devils have in fact stepped up their pursuit of the Denmark international by approaching Spurs to discuss his availability.
The report adds that Tottenham will allow Hojbjerg to leave if they receive a suitable offer for the player, who moved to North London from Southampton in the summer of 2020 for a reported £15m plus add-ons.
Man United boss Erik ten Hag is said to have tried to sign Hojbjerg from Southampton when he was in charge of Ajax, and he previously worked with the midfielder during his time managing Bayern Munich's reserve side in 2013.

Man United are also weighing up moves for other midfield targets including Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat, who has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford throughout this summer.
The Morocco international has missed Fiorentina's last two matches and is currently training away from the first-team squad amid transfer speculation, with the Red Devils believed to be in pole position to recruit the 28-year-old.
A potential summer transfer to Old Trafford for Amrabat remains in the balance, though, and the same can be said about Bayern Munich's Ryan Gravenberch who recently commented about the uncertainty of his future.
Meanwhile, Ten Hag is also in the market for a new left-back due to the injuries sustained by Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, with Tottenham's Sergio Reguilon, Chelsea's Marc Cucurella and Brentford's Rico Henry all emerging as potential targets.
However, a proposed move for Marcos Alonso appears to be off as the Barcelona left-back has reportedly turned down a two-year offer from the Red Devils in favour of staying at Camp Nou.
