Liverpool are reportedly among several European clubs that are showing an interest in signing Germany international Jonathan Tah from Bayern Munich.

Liverpool are reportedly among a host of Premier League clubs who are interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah.

The centre-back has amassed 357 competitive appearances since joining Leverkusen from Hamburg in the summer of 2025.

Tah was a prominent figure in the Leverkusen side that enjoyed an unbeaten domestic campaign last season as they went on to lift the Bundesliga title and the DFB-Pokal.

The 28-year-old also helped his team reach the Europa League final where they ultimately fell short against Italian side Atalanta BC.

After impressing in his 48 appearances last term, Tah was heavily linked with a move to fellow German side Bayern Munich in the recent summer transfer window.

Liverpool to rival Premier League clubs for Tah

While a transfer failed to materialise, Tah continues to be linked with a move away from the BayArena due to his current contract situation.

Tah has entered the final 12 months of his contract and has revealed that he has no intention of signing a new deal with Xabi Alonso's side.

Catalan giants Barcelona are among Tah's potential suitors, but the defender is attracting plenty of interest from the Premier League.

According to Bild, Liverpool are among several Premier League clubs who are showing an interest in the Germany international.

The report claims the Reds are set to rival Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur for Tah's signature.

Tah is believed to be keen to join a Premier League club competing in the Champions League, and he will be able to discuss pre-contract agreements with clubs outside of Germany from the start of 2025.

Why are Liverpool targeting a new defender?

The Reds failed to sign a defender in the summer transfer window despite seeing Joel Matip leave on a free transfer and Sepp van den Berg complete a permanent switch to Brentford.

Those departures have left Arne Slot with four main centre-back options, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez.

Liverpool's need for a new centre-back could depend on Van Dijk and Gomez, who are currently facing uncertain futures.

Van Dijk has entered the final 12 months of his contract, while Gomez was linked with a move away in the summer transfer window.

If either of those players leave in the next year, Liverpool will need to delve into the transfer market to recruit a new central defender.
