Everton join Newcastle United in the race to sign Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay this summer, according to a report.

Everton are reportedly in the race to sign Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay this summer.

The 26-year-old was a regular for the Red Devils during the 2022-23 campaign, featuring on 39 occasions in all competitions, but he only started 10 times in the Premier League, with the midfielder dropping down the pecking order following the arrivals of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro.

McTominay was strongly linked with a move away from Old Trafford in January, but Man United head coach Erik ten Hag was not prepared to let the Scotland international leave in the middle of the season.

The Red Devils academy product recently expressed his happiness in Manchester, revealing that he 'loves' playing under Ten Hag.

However, there is currently widespread speculation surrounding his future, with Newcastle United believed to be preparing a summer move, having been linked with his services in January.

According to Football Insider, Everton are also now in the running for his signature, with the Toffees prepared to make him a key player at Goodison Park.

The report claims that Man United would want at least £20m for McTominay, with West Ham United also keeping a close eye on his situation at Old Trafford.

The Scot struggled for starts throughout the 2022-23 campaign, only featuring from the first whistle on one occasion in the Europa League and just twice in the FA Cup.

Injuries to Antony and Anthony Martial led to Bruno Fernandes being moved into a forward area for the FA Cup final against Manchester City last weekend, but Fred was preferred to McTominay, with the academy product only featuring for the final seven minutes of the contest.

Man United's priority for this summer's transfer window is to bring in a new centre-forward, as the club are light in that area of the field.

Wout Weghorst's loan spell from Burnley has now ended, while Martial is being heavily linked with an exit, which would leave Marcus Rashford as the only first-team player with experience of regularly playing through the middle.

Head coach Ten Hag is also said to want a centre-back, with Napoli's Kim Min-jae thought to be nearing a switch to the club, but a new central midfielder is also expected to arrive.

Mason Mount is thought to be the leading target, with the England international preparing to leave Chelsea, and his arrival would push McTominay further down the pecking order.

Everton only survived relegation from the Premier League on the final weekend of the campaign, with their 1-0 win over Bournemouth at Goodison Park keeping them in the division.
