Everton are reportedly considering a move for Manchester United defender Chris Smalling when the transfer window reopens this summer.
Smalling has been increasingly linked with a move away from Old Trafford at the end of the season following a string of performances which have drawn widespread criticism.
United boss Jose Mourinho is expected to bolster his defensive line in the transfer window, which could lead to Smalling being one of the players to make way.
The Liverpool Echo reports that bookmakers have now made Everton favourites to sign the 28-year-old, who is expected to command a fee of at least £25m.
Toffees boss Sam Allardyce is also likely to be in the market for defensive reinforcements this summer having been unconvinced by the performances of the likes of Ashley Williams, Michael Keane, Phil Jagielka and loanee Eliaquim Mangala since taking over.
Everton are expected to face competition for Smalling's signature, though, with Newcastle United, West Ham United and Arsenal also credited with an interest in the England international.
