Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag admits that it is unlikely the club will be making any signings in January.

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has admitted that it is unlikely the club will be making any signings during the January transfer window.

The Red Devils have lost 10 of their 21 matches in all competitions this season ahead of Wednesday evening's clash with Chelsea at Old Trafford.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe will soon be announced as a new minority shareholder at Man United, with the British billionaire set to purchase 25% of the club.

There has been widespread speculation surrounding potential January incomings at Old Trafford, with the club thought to be looking to sign a new centre-forward due to their issues in the final third of the field.

However, Ten Hag has conceded that the 20-time English champions are unlikely to make any January additions due to the difficulty of signing the right players in the middle of a season.

"I don't think so - and if so, the approach from United should be that if you can improve your team, then you should do. What we expect from every player coming to Carrington every day is for them to give their maximum, to give their best," Ten Hag told the United We Stand fanzine, as reported by Andy Mitten for The Athletic.

"As a club, you have to look for improvements, so if you can find better and it's realistic financially and with financial fair play, I think the club has to go with it. But realistically, in relation to the market, most of the time you don't attract the best players in the winter.

"The top, top players will not leave their clubs in the winter. It's players who are disappointed, injured or just not the right fit or whatever.

"We have to develop and progress this team. In reality, we go to the next summer window and there will be new players coming in."

Stuttgart's Serhou Guirassy is currently being strongly linked with a move to the club, and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently said that there was an interest from the Red Devils.

However, Man United are working to the strict rules surrounding Financial Fair Play, which could make it difficult for them to bring in any new players during the winter market.

There are expected to be outgoings at Old Trafford, though, with Jadon Sancho and Donny van de Beek both set to move on in search of action.
