Chelsea, Liverpool 'to rival Bayern Munich for Dayot Upamecano'

Chelsea and Liverpool will rival Bayern Munich for the signature of RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano this summer, according to a report.

Chelsea and Liverpool are reportedly preparing to rival Bayern Munich for the signature of RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano this summer.

There will be a €42m (£37.3m) release clause in the France international's contract at the end of the 2020-21 campaign, and the defender is widely expected to leave the Red Bulls in search of pastures new.

Manchester United will allegedly not be signing Upamecano, with the 20-time English champions deciding to pursue other options in the upcoming market.

According to The Guardian, Chelsea and Liverpool are in the running for the Frenchman, but the Premier League pair are both behind Bayern when it comes to the race for his signature.

The report claims that the German champions view Upamecano as the ideal replacement for David Alaba, who is expected to leave Allianz Arena on a free transfer at the end of June.

The Leipzig centre-back has made 26 appearances at club level during the 2020-21 season.
