Mark Bosnich urges Manchester United to spend in January market

Mark Bosnich believes that Manchester United need to give manager David Moyes money to spend in the transfer window this month in order to salvage their season.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich believes that manager David Moyes can save the club's season if he is given the funds to bring in new players this month.

The North-West outfit look unlikely to successfully defend their Premier League title having slipped to seventh in the table after 20 games.

The club's chances of winning the FA Cup were also thwarted when they lost 2-1 to Swansea City at Old Trafford on Sunday in the third round of the competition.

Bosnich believes that United's current position under Moyes, who replaced Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of last season, stems from the club's failure to land any of their big-name targets in the summer transfer window.

"Man United's problems can be traced back to their lack of activity in the transfer window last summer," Bosnich told talkSPORT.

"You have to improve your squad every year if you're going to stay on the top. This season is heading towards disaster. They might not finish in the top four.

"They really need to say, 'this season is salvageable, we might not win the title but we could finish in the top four but we need to identify big players, players of Manchester United's calibre and spend some money'."

United currently sit 11 points adrift of league leaders Arsenal.
