Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Manchester United could line up for Sunday's Premier League showdown with bitter rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer finds himself in the enviable position of having a choice of when to rest players at a crucial stage of the season ahead of Sunday's blockbuster showdown against bitter rivals Liverpool.

The Red Devils have all but secured a top-four spot already, and also got most of the job done in terms of reaching the Europa League final during the first leg of their semi-final on Thursday, hammering Roma 6-2.

Next Thursday's second leg at the Stadio Olimpico now looks like a more favourable opportunity to rest players, particularly given that a victory for Man United against Liverpool could mathematically seal their place in the top four.

It would also prevent Manchester City from winning the title this weekend, so Solskjaer could be tempted to name close to his strongest XI for Liverpool's trip to Old Trafford.

That would mean another start for Edinson Cavani, who scored twice in midweek, while Bruno Fernandes also helped himself to a brace.

One attacking player who will be keen to start is Mason Greenwood, having come off the bench to wrap up the Roma rout, but he may have to wait for the second leg in the Italian capital for his next start.

Marcus Rashford could be in contention to drop out if Greenwood is given the nod, but he has scored four goals and assisted another in his last four meetings with Liverpool and so will be desperate to play against them again here.

One change Solskjaer is expected to make comes in goal, with Dean Henderson coming back in for David de Gea between the sticks.

In front of him, Harry Maguire could make a small slice of history by completing 90 minutes in a 72nd consecutive Premier League game, surpassing Gary Pallister's record for Man United.

The hosts are only missing two players through injury, with Anthony Martial and Phil Jones sidelined.

Manchester United possible starting lineup:
Henderson; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Fred, McTominay; Rashford, Fernandes, Pogba; Cavani
