Ed Woodward chairs meeting on Louis van Gaal's Manchester United future?

A report claims that Louis van Gaal's future as Manchester United manager was the subject of a meeting held by vice-chairman Ed Woodward this afternoon.

Vice-chairman Ed Woodward reportedly hosted a meeting at Manchester United's London base this afternoon to discuss the future of manager Louis van Gaal.

Speculation over the last couple of days has suggested that the Dutchman's position at the Old Trafford helm is under severe pressure, with his side having won none of their last six outings in all competitions.

The United board have so far remained tight-lipped on the situation, but The Sun has now claimed that Woodward has been concerned enough by recent results to call a conference, which got underway at 1pm.

Last night The Mirror also stated that Woodward had sought the advice of former boss Sir Alex Ferguson on the matter.

In terms of potential replacements, ex-Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is the overwhelming favourite to succeed Van Gaal, should the Red Devils decide to relieve the 64-year-old of his duties.

Van Gaal is due to speak to the media tomorrow afternoon ahead of the Boxing Day trip to Stoke City.
