Paul Scholes calls for Manchester United to keep hold of Louis van Gaal

Paul Scholes says that Louis van Gaal deserves time at Manchester United amid reports that his job could be in trouble.

Paul Scholes has claimed that Louis van Gaal deserves to keep his job as Manchester United manager amid uncertainty over the Dutchman's future.

The 64-year-old's tactics have been criticised over the course of the season, and last night's goalless draw against Chelsea was the team's eighth game without a win.

After the match, Van Gaal insisted that he will not resign, and Scholes believes that he deserves time to turn the club's fortunes around.

"I think performances throughout the season have quite simply not been good enough, especially the past four or five weeks," Scholes said on BT Sport.

"Okay, they were winning games in the first part of the season and they were top of the league but it still wasn't entertaining football, it wasn't football you'd like to come and see, and now in the last three or four weeks they've had the results they deserve, but no I don't think he should go. I think he should have a chance to turn it around."

United are sixth in the Premier League table, nine points behind leaders Arsenal after 19 games.
