Manchester United ban journalists from four media outlets from attending Erik ten Hag's press conference ahead of Wednesday's home clash with Chelsea.

Manchester United banned four journalists from attending Erik ten Hag's pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday's clash with Chelsea.

The Dutchman was speaking to reporters at Tuesday's press conference, but journalists from four media outlets were not allowed to attend.

Sky Sports News' Kaveh Solhekol, Manchester Evening News' Samuel Luckhurst, The Mirror's David McDonnell and ESPN's Rob Dawson were all refused entry to the media briefing at the club's Carrington training complex.

Man United took the decision over what they claimed was a failure of journalists to contact them for a right of reply prior to the release of negative stories around the club.

A club statement read: "We are taking action against a number of news organisations. Not for publishing stories we don't like, but for doing so without contacting us first to give us the opportunity to comment, challenge or contextualise.

"We believe this is an important principle to defend and we hope it can lead to a re-set in the way we work together."

The statement was alluding to a recent story suggesting that the Dutchman had lost part of the Man United dressing room.

There has been a suggestion that half of the dressing room has lost confidence in Ten Hag after a failure to act on concerns voiced by some Man United players.

The report suggested that some players have become dissatisfied with the style of play and feel they are being trained too hard.

A few members of the squad are also said to be unhappy with the treatment of Jadon Sancho, who has been frozen out since August following his refusal to apologise for responding to Ten Hag's comments over his application in training.

Ten Hag was questioned over the club's decision to prevent four journalists from attending his press conference.

The 53-year-old said: "They should have come to us first and not go around our back printing articles - that is not the right thing.

Having picked up 24 points from 14 games, Man United are sitting in seventh position ahead of Wednesday's clash with Chelsea at Old Trafford.
